Blog 12 – The Church Must Continue What Jesus Began
Immediately after the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, Matthew 4:17 says, from that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
A scrutiny of the scriptures reveals that to be exactly what He did thereafter. The entire time Jesus remained on earth, He taught and exemplified what it meant to live and minister in the Kingdom of God.
The New Testament covenant was ratified by the sinless blood of Jesus Christ. After His death, burial, and resurrection He continued to teach the disciples about Kingdom of God for a period of forty days. After this He ascended to His throne in Heaven.
What did Jesus teach the disciples during these forty days? Things pertaining to the Kingdom.
The New Covenant began to be applied in Acts chapter two on the day of Pentecost. Believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to baptize converts in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. The Kingdom was now in them.
Numerous scriptures throughout Acts tell of various believers teaching and preaching to others about the Kingdom of God. That is what their core message was. Jesus is the King of His Kingdom, and they shared that good news with people everywhere.
The Book of Acts is the historical account of the early Church. It is the only book in the Bible that has no ending. It simply stops in the middle of a story about the apostle Paul. The last verse Acts 28:31 says he was, “Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.”
In like manner, the Church of today must continue the message that Jesus began. How else could Matthew 24:14 be fulfilled? It says, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.”
The end has not come yet, so we must continue what Jesus and the early Church started. But how does one teach others about the Kingdom of God if they themselves don’t understand it?
Solving that question is the genesis of www.biblicalkingdom.com
