“Understanding the Kingdom of God” Lesson 24 – The Spirit Gives Life
Through God’s Holy Spirit, we are made alive and birthed from spiritual deadness in sin. Only God can impart His Spirit to an individual. It is not something that man can accept, claim, or ingest of his own accord. Prior to receiving the new birth experience, which includes the infilling of the Holy Spirit, an individual is considered as dead and living in trespasses and sin.
Repentance and baptism represent the death of the old man. Coming up out of the water and receiving the Holy Spirit is the new life. The Spirit gives life. No one can arbitrarily volunteer for entry and be accepted for their own doing. A person cannot cause himself to be born again. Flesh does not produce redemption. Unless one is born of the Holy Spirit and water baptism whatever one does in the flesh will not make him spiritual in the Biblical sense. This lesson clarifies the difference between our natural birth and our spiritual birth.
